The Muppet Diaries, New England Edition!

Nice work, you Muppet

It seems ridiculous to write this post now after the day we’ve just had, but I’ll write this one quickly and then do a separate post about today’s debacle.

So, Vineyard Haven, big winds coming, we anchored in Lagoon Pond to avoid the big fetch/waves with the forecasted NE winds to 30. The winds finally come up and even though I’ve put out 8:1 scope on our Rocna 33kg anchor with all chain rode, attached our 30’ 3/4” nylon snubber, I felt the need to go check things at 2 a.m. in the pitch dark. Picture Ryan Gosling, shirtless, in his boxer briefs up on the bow in the dark. You’re welcome. Now picture me, shirtless, in my undies, stumbling around like a muppet. A nice tug on the snubber to check the load and “doink!” I somehow managed to knock the starboard running light in to the water. Shocking. Upsetting. Really frustrating.

So all night operations for Atlas would be suspended until I fixed my mistake by replacing the running light. 5 minutes later at http://www.defender.com things were sorted. After I placed the order I flicked on the nav lights to make sure that the starboard light still functioned (it does, it’s just missing its green housing) and the freaking PORT light isn’t working now. OMFG.

We had to tape “Craig” (our dinghy Nav light) to the forestay. But, hey, it worked. Thanks Craig!

Thankfully our upcoming week in NYC will allow the parts to find us. A brief post but the next one is a doozy.
